Assistant Research Scientist

Position Summary: The University of Georgia Complex Carbohydrate Research Center is accepting applications for an Assistant Research Scientist. This is a full time non-tenure-track position. This position involves the development of sophisticated, web-based data repositories that provide information about the structures, biosynthesis and biological functions of complex glycans in a biomedical context. The individual filling this position will design and supervise the development of full-stack web applications that comprise intuitive graphical user interfaces, client-server interfaces, and back-end data servers along with development of standard representations of glycan structure and data exchange protocols required to implement these resources. Minimum degree required is a PhD in Computer Science or closely related area, with the degree awarded by the employment start date. Two years of experience is required in development of glycan structure/function databases, with a demonstrated knowledge of computer technologies required to implement these resources, including HTML5, javascript, relational databases and semantic Web technologies such as RDF and SPARQL, along with a strong background in the structure and biology of complex glycans.
