Database Systems Specialist
The Database Systems Specialist (DSS) is responsible for managing, monitoring and supporting the colleges administrative and database servers. The DSS will be responsible for ensuring all servers which require certificates are applied and are up to date, server vulnerabilities that are identified are corrected and have the responsibility of updating servers to supported operating systems. The DSS will also provide database administration support for administrative Microsoft SQL databases.

Monitoring the servers for responsiveness, availability and capacity. Taking actions based on the monitoring to ensure servers are operating effectively. Installation of Microsoft SQL and configuring the software to meet security requirements. Creating maintenance plans to backup, perform daily maintenance and process application related scripts.
Attending change management and vulnerability meetings on a weekly basis. This will include sharing information with other team members and working with the System Engineers and team members to resolve the identified vulnerabilities.
Preparing change management documentation to support server configuration, new initiatives and downtime tasks.
Creating queries and reports as needed using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and third party software.
Working with systems engineers on server migration, installation, software packages and server vulnerabilities.
Working with Database Administrator to migrate databases from one server platform to another.
Applying certificates to IIS, Apache and Tomcat servers.
Working with the user community on issues identified to the Call Center
Managing security for the SQL Servers and software applications.
Reviewing and providing recommendations on future software purchases.
Will be assigned the responsibility for managing third party software on designated software. Will work with the college community, vendor and systems engineers on installation and software support.
Assisting the Team Leader for Database and Environment with projects as they are identified. This could be annual audits, documentation and new software installations.
Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or related discipline
Minimum of five (5) years of relevent experience which must include a minimum of three (3) years working experience with Microsoft SQL as an administrator.
Understanding of SQL query, SQL Server Management Studio, Integration Services and Reporting Services.
Minimum of three (3) years working experience managing Windows Server 2008, 2012 or 2016.
Windows desktop management and proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Must be able to complete complex projects and resolve issues with minimal supervision.
Will be on call and must be able to work during off hours for system maintenance. This could be a Friday evening or Sunday morning.
Experience with IIS, Tomcat and Apache web servers.
Project Management or ITIL experience.
Working experience applying security in an SQL and Windows environment.
Experience managing certificates on a server.
Self motivated and able to work in a team environment or independently.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to explain technical details at a level that is understandable to the audience you are working with.
