Summary of Duties:
The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (ESFCOM) at Washington State University is embarking on the accreditation and development of a next generation medical school designed to train students to be physician leaders who innovate, adapt, and discover in an ever changing healthcare landscape. The School is now inviting applications for the position of Director, Research Administration and Finance who will join the Office of Research in leading the college into the future.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight of department's fiscal management, human resource functions, and administration. Position shall be accountable for resources, staffing, organizational planning, and representation of department.

  • Create, justify, administer and monitor budgets for the unit and its related programmatic areas with recognition of institutional guidelines and in accordance with strategic plans

  • Develop and ensure accuracy of grant proposal budgets and contractual agreements; ensure the timely submission of proposals or agreements which meet institutional mandates; obtain exceptions, if necessary, to institutional guidelines

  • Serve as lead contact for research faculty related to grants submission and management. Routinely provide case management for routine and unique concerns related to research administration.

  • Provide advice and counsel to faculty on grant submissions, negotiations with sponsoring agencies, contract development and financial oversight of approved awards

  • Serve as the direct supervisor of the research administration unit employees


Required Qualifications:
Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and six (6) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least three (3) years of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment.
