The University Counseling Center (UCC) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is seeking a team oriented, experienced generalist with strong clinical skills to serve as Assistant Director and provide administrative oversight of the UCC practicum/intern training program. The Assistant Director is responsible for the recruitment and selection of graduate practicum/intern students and will oversee the development and execution of training policies and procedures, and provide consultative supervision to clinical supervisors. The Assistant Director will also assist the UCC leadership team with administrative tasks, provide consultation and guidance to clinical staff regarding clinical dilemmas and crises in the absence of the UCC Director and Associate Director, and supervise designated front office support staff. This position also requires the provision of clinical services including individual and group counseling, intake evaluation, crisis assessment and intervention, and outreach programming and consultation services.

  • Provide administrative oversight of the Counseling Center practicum/intern training program including establishing training program priorities; communicating with trainee's academic programs; preparing reports related to training program; providing oversight for trainee application, selection and review process; developing short and long-term goals for training program; updating training manual and maintaining oversight of training policies and procedures; and clinical supervision of trainees.
  • Manage, supervise, and evaluate University Counseling Center front office support staff.
  • Provide administrative guidance, consultation, and direction regarding clinical situations in the absence of the Associate Director/Clinical Director.
  • Assist Director and Associate Director with administrative tasks as needed including management of electronic record-keeping and in-house data collection, development and implementation of departmental policy and procedures and strategic planning
  • Provide comprehensive clinical services including individual and group counseling, assessment, and triage counselor on-duty services. Maintain documentation of services within electronic health records system in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure adherence and compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards in all areas of service delivery
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including serving on committees and completing special projects as requested by directors.

  • Master's degree in counseling or psychology field.
  • Licensed as a Psychologist or LPC in the state of Texas.
  • Five (5) years of professional post-masters counseling experience in a college counseling or outpatient counseling setting.
  • Demonstrated competency in providing short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and triage services to adolescents or young adults in an outpatient clinical setting.
  • Experience in providing training and clinical supervision to trainees.
  • Demonstrated program development and management skills
  • Experience in assessment and intervention of individuals with a range of disorders and serious mental health concerns, including trauma and life-threatening crises.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and high level of professionalism and professional ethics.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, staff, faculty and administrators.
  • Knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records systems.
  • Multicultural awareness and competency.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Six (6) or more years of professional post- master's counseling experiences with adolescents and/or adults in an outpatient setting.
  • Licensed as an LPC-S (Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor) in Texas and/or specialized training in clinical supervision.
  • Experience providing counseling services as a professional staff member in a university setting.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision and training to master's level counseling trainees in a college or university counseling center.
  • Experience coordinating a clinical training program in a college or university counseling center.
  • Administrative and supervisory experience in a university counseling center or similar entity.
  • Expertise in crisis intervention and management.
  • Quantitative assessment and evaluation experience.
