Augusta University’s Department of Social Sciences and its CSWE-accredited Baccalaureate Social Work (BSW) program is seeking to hire a tenure track position at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 2019.  We seek an individual to contribute to our BSW, while maintaining an active research agenda. Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching (including integrating community based learning into coursework), potential for excellence in research and procuring external funding, and an interest in online instruction. 

Augusta University is a student-centered comprehensive research university and academic health center with over 9,000 students and 1,200 faculty members committed to providing leadership and excellence in teaching, discovery, clinical care, and service. The Department of Social Sciences includes over 400 majors in undergraduate degrees in Sociology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, and Political Science along with a Master’s in Public Administration and a newly created Master of Arts in Intelligence and Security Studies. Our BSW program, with over 50 current students and 6 faculty members, is accredited by CSWE until 2023. We are located on the beautiful Summerville campus in a building that was newly remodeled during fall 2016.

 

Minimum Requirements  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION

  • Research/Teaching Interest in Medical Social Work and/or Gerontology. Interest/Experience in Fieldwork Supervision.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

The successful candidate must have

  • A doctorate in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field. An MSW from a CSWE accredited program with a minimum of two years post MSW practice experience.  Potential for teaching effectiveness with diverse student populations. Potential for high quality and original scholarship appropriate to the discipline that shows promise of continuation.  Ability to teach coursework in the BSW program; all specializations and subfields within social work will be considered, though experience/interest in Medical Social Work is preferred.
