Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the overall operational management of the College of Social Sciences' Academic Advising and Academic Affairs offices. Oversees training and development of 11 full time staff members in the Academic Advising/Affairs office. Serves as liaison to 6 departments and 7 programs including: Askew School of Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography and Economics departments and the Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, International Affairs, African American Studies, Latin American Center, European Studies, Public Health and Demography programs. Responsible for overseeing and or assisting with academic staff training as needed for these departments and programs and directs the academic policy trainings in the College.

Responsible for oversight of all reinstatement's, withdrawals, graduation clearances, drops, major changes, forms and exceptions for 15 masters programs, 6 doctoral programs and 10 joint-degree programs.

Collaborates with the Dean, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and College staff to oversee academic programs in the 6 departments and 7 programs. Provides leadership and direction on academic matters, such as course and degree requirement changes and new academic program/degree proposals for graduate programs. Reviews and administers decisions on academic policy and student affairs issues for all College graduate students. Serves on campus-wide committees concerned with academic policy, student success, student recruitment, and student retention for graduate programs. Assists development and attainment of the strategic objectives of the College's graduate and undergraduate programs.

Resolves any academic-related grievances students or faculty may have at the graduate level. Manages graduate enrollment for the College's departments and programs. Monitors undergraduate course demand for the College's departments and programs.

Qualifications

A Master's degree and five years of experience related to the duties of this position; or a Bachelor's degree and seven years experience related to the duties of this position. Two years of experience must be in a supervisory role.

Experience applying principles and practices to strategically align tasks and people with organizational goals and objectives.

Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, goals and objectives.

Experience working with computer applications to include Microsoft office, Excel, Outlook or comparable software.

Experience of the concept, principles and practices of management.

Ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, local laws, University policies, procedures, principals and practices.

Working knowledge of the principles and practices of student program planning, development and evaluation.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.

Schedule

This is an 8:00 am - 5:00pm with one hour for lunch from 12:00 - 1:00.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
