PROFESSOR OF THE PRACTICE, Department Of Biomedical Engineering

The Boston University Department of Biomedical Engineering (BU BME) anticipates an opening for a non-tenured Professor of the Practice faculty position, pending approval by the Provost. This hire will be charged with leading a new Biomedical Teaching and Entrepreneurship Center (BTEC). Responsibilities will include nurturing relationships with corporate sponsors and innovation partners; further curriculum development and teaching in our innovation curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and oversight of the BTEC facilities and staff.

BU BME is a top-ranked department and one of the largest in the nation with 39 tenured or tenure-track primary faculty. We attract exceptional undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. We have strong ties to local industry in biotechnology and bioinstrumentation, and strong collaborations with the BU School of Medicine as well as other top medical research centers in the Boston area. Research activity by primary faculty is approximately $30M per year. Our students and faculty benefit from strong infrastructure and a translational emphasis, nurtured by unding from the Coulter Foundation to translate research advances into new applications that impact society. Research innovations focus on applying engineering, computational, and analytical techniques to biological systems—from the nanoscale level of DNA to the macroscopic level of organ systems.

Candidates for must hold a PhD in an appropriate area, and must have a strong background in technical leadership positions in industry involving biomedical device and/or product development.
