The Department of Geological & Environmental Sciences (GES) and the Department of Chemistry at Hope College seek applicants for a tenure-track position, beginning in the fall of 2019. The position will be at the assistant professor level and will be a joint appointment between the GES (75%) and Chemistry (25%) departments. The exact teaching responsibilities will depend on the background of the candidate and will include some combination of Introduction to Environmental Science, Local Environmental Systems, Global Physical Systems, Laboratory Methods in Environmental Science, Advanced Environmental Seminar, and Environmental Geochemistry. The candidate must also have the background proficiency to teach Introductory General Chemistry Lecture and Lab. Candidates with the background to teach additional courses in the geology curriculum will be preferred.

A Ph.D. in geochemistry or a closely-related field is required. Applicants must have demonstrated success in geochemistry-based environmental research, and have the potential to establish a nationally recognized, funded, and robust undergraduate research program. This person must have both specific research plans that involve undergraduate students and a long-term research vision.
