Assistant Director of the Center for Career Exploration & Success (CCES) & On Demand Career Advising
Job Description Summary:
The Assistant Director of the Center for Career Exploration & Success (CCES) & On Demand Career Advising works collaboratively within the Career Center in four major areas: 1) development, coordination, and execution of drop in career advising services including overseeing the Graduate Assistant and Career Assistants; 2) career advising to students who drop into the Career Center when Career Assistants are unavailable; 3) serve as primary liaison to Division of Student Life and provide strategic, career-related programs and services; and 4) Leverage institutional data to drive decision making about services offered and ensure programmatic surveys/assessments are conducted to understand if services and programs are meeting student needs. This position is a member of the Career Development sub-team within CCES and is dedicated to expanding Miami’s Career Community especially known for innovative career programming. The role consistently promotes the value of a liberal arts education to our various constituents including students, faculty, employers, and parents. This position must be able to work in the evenings regularly.
In collaboration with supervisor and the Director of Career Advising, Programming and Diversity Initiatives, oversee CCES Graduate Assistant who spearheads the Career Assistant program. Career Assistants (CA’s) are students who are employed by CCES to deliver drop in resume critiques and LinkedIn advice to the overall student population at Miami University. Ensure the recruitment, hiring, training and development of the CA’s. Oversee marketing of CCES drop in hours to students. Lead weekly CA team meetings and provide on-going professional development to these high-performing student workers. (35%)
Provide on-demand/drop-in career advising to students especially when Career Assistants are not available. Be knowledgeable on basic career advising needs for all majors, careers, and student populations especially students from historically underrepresented backgrounds (students of color, international, first-generation, students with disabilities, low-income, LGBTQ+, etc.). Teach first-year and/or career development courses as needed. (15%)
Serve as the primary CCES liaison to the Division of Student Life. Collaborate and provide career-related programming to the Office of Residence Life, Orientation, Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, Community Engagement & Service, Leadership, and more. (20%)
Support programming and outreach to under-served student populations as assigned and in collaboration with Career Center staff focused on this initiative. (10%)
Master's Degree in counseling, human resources, higher education administration, business or a related field required by agreed upon start date.
One to three years experience in a related field.
