The Department of Pathology has an opening for a full-time, University Staff (unclassified) Business Services Program Manager position.

The Department of Pathology at CU AMC has a proud and productive history, spanning over 130 years. The department includes nearly 100 full time faculty, 26 residents, 8 clinical fellows and hundreds of staff who work together to achieve the mission to discover, to define and to transform.

The Biorepository Core Facility (Biorepository) is housed within the Department of Pathology but serves researchers across the CU AMC campus and the State of Colorado with an extensive array of biorepository services including specimen banking, processing, distribution, and analysis for research purposes. The Biorepository functions as Shared Resource for both the University of Colorado Cancer Center (Tissue Biobanking and Histology Shared Resource) as well as the Colorado Clinical Translational Science Institute

Nature of Work:
The Biorepository is in need of Business Services Program Manager to provide oversight of administrative and financial management of the Biorepository Core Facility. Daily activities included but not limited to: managing day-to-day administrative office operations; invoicing users for provided services; developing and updating cost studies; managing iLab system; preparing financial and administrative reports; tracking and monitoring resource use and scientific output resulting from resource use (publications, grants); and monitoring and assuring compliance with administrative and regulatory mandates.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Manage office operations for the Biorepository including: facilities management; strategic planning and implementation of space utilization; and management of office operations.
  • Provide ongoing leadership and oversight of the financial operations of the Biorepository developing and executing strategies to maximize the use of financial resources available to the Biorepository.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of an annual business plan and cost analysis for the Biorepository to insure appropriate pricing for services rendered and to allow for leadership to easily assess the need for and use of various funding resources.
  • Integrate the operation into iLab and subsequently manage iLab to facilitate billing processes for services and support data collection on resource use.
  • Develop and monitor metrics to demonstrate the value of the Biorepository to the research community.
  • Develop financial metrics to provide fiscal monitoring of the operations to support timely and strategic decision making by the leadership.
  • Analyze administrative and financial performance and communicate the performance to key stakeholders in the Department of Pathology, the School of Medicine, and in UCHealth to support short- and long-term strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Ensure administrative and financial practices and processes comply with applicable state, federal, and accrediting body regulations, including the College of American Pathologists (CAP)
  • Conduct needs assessment and planning to meet business objectives. Develop and implement improvements to maximize benefits.
  • Ensure the unit's compliance with all financial policies and procedures related to all facets of the University, CU Medicine and UC Health financial enterprise systems (PeopleSoft, Concur, CU Marketplace, OnCore, Epic, etc.) including electronic and paper approval and submission (i.e., POs, SPOs, University Payment Vouchers, Travel Reconciliation, Employee/Patient Reimbursements, etc.).
  • Plan and execute business, operational, and clinical projects. Develop communication plans to engage key constituents, including university departments, physicians, consortium partners and pharmaceutical companies.
  • Engage stakeholders in project design and implementation.
  • Present financial and relevant administrative reports to departmental and institutional leadership, as requested.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a biomedical science field or Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
  • Three (3) years of professional finance management experience.
  • Three (3) years' experience in administrative operations management. (e.g. management of office operation, development/execution of business plan, cost/benefit analysis of services, facilities management)

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Financial management experience in an academic medical center.
  • Laboratory or administrative experience in a biomedical science lab.
  • Experience with human subjects research regulations and Institutional Review Board protocol submissions.
  • Master's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field from accredited institution.
