Posting Summary:
The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia seeks a post-doctoral Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Frederick Epstein to perform Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging research. The position is funded for a period of at least 2 years. Potential projects include developing and applying advanced CMR methods to detect and quantify indices of heart disease in human patients and animal models. Research will involve development of CMR pulse sequences, image reconstruction methods, and quantitative analyses of myocardial mechanics, perfusion, or other parameters. MRI equipment at UVA includes state-of-the art 1.5 and 3T Siemens systems for imaging human subjects, and a 7T Bruker Clinscan system for small animal imaging.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Biomedical Engineering or closely related field. Preferred skills include experience in MRI, Siemens IDEA and ICE programming, image reconstruction and processing, and heart disease research. The candidate is expected to be proficient in MATLAB and C++ and must have very good oral and written communication skills. Candidates with sufficient experience will have the opportunity to perform independent research, supervise trainees, and write research proposals.
