Lead Infant/Toddler Teacher

Position Summary: Governors State University's Family Development Center Seeks to fill the position of Lead Infant/Toddler Teacher The successful candidate will have the responsibility to provide day to day leadership and operational coordination to all infant/toddler teachers, assuring regulations are enforced at all times. Acts as Director when needed. Implement a success oriented, developmentally appropriate program for Early Head Start children in a mixed age classroom ages 6 weeks to 3 years. Infant/toddler teachers integrate all aspects of Early Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC standards, and Illinois Day Care Regulations into the schedule and curriculum for each child including any special items as directed including but not limited to nutrition, behavior, or Individual Family Service Plans. Infant/Toddler teachers work in teaching teams of two or three in conjunction with the Education Director to design the environment and create lesson plans to meet the individual health, safety, social-emotional, and academic needs of the children. Additionally, the applicant must be able to create a warm and accepting environment for children, parents, volunteers, community representatives and staff and serve as models for GSU students. Current or former Head Start or Early Head Start parents who meet the minimum qualifications are encouraged to apply. Salary starts at $35,000.
Minimum Qualifications: BA/BS in Early Childhood Education/Child Development/Early Childhood Special Education, with at least eighteen semester hours in early childhood education. Detailed Knowledge of DCFS, EHS,NAEYC regulations. 3 years of experience working directly with infants/toddlers/twos 1 year of management/ supervisory experience While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must periodically lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as when having to deal with children in the 0 to 5 year age group. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids and head lice is common. Must be able to see and hear children at all times. Ability to maintain composure, handle stress and relate well to parents and regulators in the absence of the Executive or Education Director is required. Personal qualifications as required in Part 407: Licensing Standards for Day Care Centers, emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities; Requires ability to use abstract reasoning, problem solving, planning, and analytical skills in: Training, evaluation, and program development; Requires effective interpersonal and oral communication skills for supervisory duties. Requires effective writing and oral communication skills to conduct meetings and training sessions, and to prepare reports that are clear, complete, comprehensive, and use good grammar and punctuation; Successful experience working in a collaborative team setting, Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
Preferred Qualifications: MA/MS in Early Childhood Education/Child Development/Early Childhood Special Education/ with 36 credit hours in Early Childhood 3 years supervisory experience 5 years of classroom experience working directly with infants/toddlers/twos
Work Schedule: Shifts are Monday- Friday. Hours vary between 7AM-6PM. Availability to work 10-6PM is required. -Occasional evenings for home visits and possible weekend/overnight travel to attend training and conferences.
