Ten-month position (August - May) to assist in developing and implementing mental health programs for the campus community including culturally competent intake and assessment, individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention including on-call responsibilities, consultation and referral, training, supervision, and educational program development and delivery. Manage on-going psychoeducational programs
with a focus on the intersection of mental health and cultural diversity, as well as the promotion of community wellness. Engage in consultation with faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and other students around issues related to the developmental and psychological needs of diverse students. Counselors complement a strong relationship-focused team of professionals committed to the psychological needs and development of traditional age, residential students, and to providing leadership to the campus in regards to mental health issues, with a demonstrated commitment to supporting, empowering and retaining students from underrepresented groups.
Position/Job Responsibilities
1. Provide culturally competent individual assessment, time-limited counseling, and group counseling to students seeking assistance with personal, psychological, or interpersonal problems. Provide support for students whose personal, psychological, or interpersonal problems are interfering with their functioning as students and as members of the Ithaca College community. Assist in assessing psychological withdrawals and leaves of absences. Provide crisis counseling and counseling services for students with acute psychological problems to include on-call responsibilities.
2. Present psycho-educational programs to members of the Ithaca College community to promote personal, interpersonal, and psychological health, as well as to foster a climate of openness and inclusion on campus.
3. Provide training and consultation on special programs or to particular student groups; develop training programs to promote staff development in helping skills; participate in the training of residence hall and other staff.
4. Provide consultation to faculty, staff, administrators, and other concerned individuals regarding issues of student mental health; support faculty and staff development programs related to the creation of a psychologically healthy community; support academic programs which contribute to the healthy development of students, particularly under-represented students.
5. Demonstrate multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community. Demonstrate inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
6. Assist in research relevant to assessing student needs and describing student behavior and culture; assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of counseling and other counseling center activities.
7. Provide guidance, direction and clinical supervision to graduate clinical interns, as needed.
8. Provide service to the division and the College; serve on a committee or Staff Council, advising a student group or participate in focus groups. Participate in evening/weekend activities.
9. Provide coordination of Counseling Center programs to include Assessment and Research, Group Therapy, Outreach and Education, Paraprofessional Training, Suicide Awareness and Prevention; oversee administrative tasks in support of assigned programs.
10. Abide by professional ethical guidelines and comply with federal and state law as it relates to the professional practice of psychology, social work or mental health counseling.
Position/Job Qualifications
Earned master's degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, or a closely related field (MA, MSW, MFT), licensure or licensure eligibility as a mental health provider in New York State, and two years post-master's degree experience in a college counseling setting or with young adults in a clinical setting; sensitivity to issues of gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, and socio-economic status, and skilled with techniques for counseling students with diverse backgrounds; demonstrated history of positive working relationships and collaborative style, strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; experience in providing service through outreach activities, program development, and committee involvement; demonstrated clinical skills and proven managerial and supervisory skills with continuing interest in professional development around current practices and trends; strong generalist with experience with common presenting concerns of college students, and experience and interest in providing group therapy; demonstrated interest, expertise, and commitment to working with students from underrepresented groups through culturally-competent therapy and programming are required.

LCSW credential, LMHC, or earned doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology (PsyD or PhD) or a related field; APA approved program and internship; minimum of two years post-doctoral degree experience in college/university counseling center are preferred. Post-doctoral supervision for licensure can be provided. Eligible doctoral candidates must be licensed within 2 years of hiring date.

The Ithaca College Center for Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS): The Ithaca College Center for Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) promotes and fosters the academic, personal, and interpersonal development of Ithaca College students by providing group counseling, short-term individual, and relationship counseling, crisis intervention, consultation for faculty, staff, parents, and students, and educational programs to the campus community. CAPS is an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs & Campus Life, and is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc. Counseling, Health and Wellness is the administrative home to CAPS, a robust health center and Health Promotion services. Mental health counselors at CAPS engage with a multidisciplinary department staff that consists of psychologists, social workers, a consulting psychiatrist, and medical and educational professionals to facilitate successful treatment and personal outcomes. Professional development funds are available as well as on-going opportunities to participate in CAPS case conference/development meetings, team supervision, co-facilitation and peer supervision of groups and individual supervision.
