FINANCIAL AID SPECIALIST
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Primarily responsible for the awarding and management of the Federal and State Work study programs and the institutional and foundation scholarship programs. Will use professional judgement for appeals, special conditions, and other Financial Aid issues, and provide highly responsible support to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration or a related field.
Experience: Three years of increasing responsibility in an office setting, preferably in financial aid or a business office setting.
Special Requirements: Must be in good standing on all Federal Student Loans.
SELECTION CRITERIA: Knowledge of: 1) Computers and various software programs including Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point.2) English language. 3) Students’ rights, responsibilities, and obligations regarding financial aid. 5) Record keeping and reporting procedures. Ability to: 6) Meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and a customer service orientation. 7) Work individually or as a team in a dynamic organization. Good interpersonal communication skills. 8) Comprehend, give and follow both written and verbal instructions. 9) Organize and make decisions and work well under pressure. 10) Relate well with a diverse student population. 11) Use tact, diplomacy and judgement in dealing with all customers. 12) Multi-task and work cooperatively with others. 13) Interpret and apply Federal, State, and College policies, procedures, laws, and regulations as applied to financial aid and veterans programs. 14) Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 15) Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 16) Deal effectively with “angry” students and resolve “sensitive issues”.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
