Instructor of Informatics (R-01290)
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Fort Hays State University and the Department of Informatics is accepting applications for an Instructor of Informatics. The selected candidate will teach the introductory and culminating courses as well as lead the development, organization, analysis, and reporting of departmental student learning outcomes. The department is seeking individuals who are dedicated to teaching, assessment, and enabling students to “learning by doing”. The faculty title and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The contract will be for a period of one year, renewable upon satisfactory performance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A masters with at least three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of both information technology and assessment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience teaching both face-to-face and online, as well as advising is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Fort Hays State University faculty in this position perform their duties on a 90% instruction, 5% scholarship, and 5% service division of labor with a 5/5 semester load.
Faculty generally teach five courses a semester. This division of work duties may be modified through negotiation between the faculty member and the Department Chair when such a change in assignment will mutually benefit the faculty member and Department of Informatics.
The successful candidate will exhibit a scholarly interest and a commitment to remain active in a scholarly manner throughout his or her career. The Informatics Department recognizes scholarship of discovery, integration, application, and teaching. Joint publications are accepted and encouraged – particularly in collaboration with students.
Service to the University, College of Business and Entrepreneurship, department, the region, and profession is expected of each faculty member.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Informatics at Fort Hays State University is notable for its innovative culture and successes. The Department was built upon the theme of the movement and use of information. It has grown strongly over the last decade due to the quality of instruction in serving students and has substantial industry support. FHSU Informatics currently instructs five undergraduate academic concentrations: Digital Media Production and Journalism; Web and Mobile Application Development; Computer Networking and Telecommunications; Health Informatics; and Management Information Systems. It offers multiple graduate degree pathways as well as emphasis options in the MBA program. In total, the Informatics Department serves more than 500 undergraduate majors and approximately 30 graduate students in a given semester. It has plans to significantly increase the graduate program. The department includes 12 full-time faculty, a lab/studio engineer, an administrative assistant, and several adjunct faculty. The Informatics Department has quality facilities include multiple video and audio studios, multiple video editing bays, a music recording studio, web development labs, and computer networking/telecommunications labs. All classrooms are mediated with built-in computing, Internet access, multi-media tools, and multiple media screens.
