The Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a full-time, 12-month non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Education, Research Faculty in the Center for the Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL). The incumbent will conduct high quality research and produce scholarship in line with the mission of the Curry School of Education. The incumbent works as PI or Co-PI on own research projects, as well as with other Principal Investigators and senior researchers on funded research projects at Curry. Duties include conceptualizing research agenda, questions and appropriate design, managing all aspects of research design, implementation, data collection, data management, analysis, and other grant related activities. In addition, the incumbent will serve as lead researcher and project manager by providing leadership and guidance to project staff and students, and work with affiliated faculty and researchers to seek new funded research projects. Incumbents are encouraged to seek funding independently or as Co-Investigator/Co-PI, produce publishable manuscripts on research findings and support and contribute to Curry and Center activities (e.g., Works-in-Progress meetings, conferences, post-doc and pre-doc training etc.). There is the possibility of student mentorship based on need, load availability, and mutual agreement between incumbent, department chair and Center director.
A terminal degree in education, psychology, or relevant field is required. A minimum three years of experience conducting educational research and experience with data management, leading data collection, and oversight of research staff and student assistants is required. A Record of scientific scholarship and publishing within the field of education is essential. A track record of proposing extramural funding is required. Experience serving in various roles on a research team including coordinator, contributor, principal investigator, co-principal investigator or co-investigator is also required. Experience or training in educational sciences that advances knowledge within the field of education and addresses issues important to education policy makers and practitioners is preferred. Experience as a practicing teacher or teacher educator at the elementary level is also preferred. The ability to effectively utilize software tools for high level statistical analysis and the ability to sustain journal and grant review activity are essential.
