Prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions.Obtain, prepare, mount and stain tissue, blood and other substances for Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment for Determine and set up instruments, material and apparatus and operate and assist in training new for specific tests.Review work of lower level laboratory personnel within designated areas develop plans for research performance of duties; clean and Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and microscopic examination.laboratory equipment required
Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and determinations in support of Duke University research operations.and techniques to meet the maintain laboratory equipment.needs of the particular equipment as required.laboratory tests, experiments and compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to physical, chemical, biological and obtain data for research purposes;applicable to research experiments.other literature for information experimental results.Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting
Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures Lab Management Ordering Supply office with information/documentation
Safety Training/paperwork for new lab members
Maintain clean laboratory
Make/stock general reagents
Stock cabinets and drawers
Teach/aid students and post-docs
Supervise animal colony stocks and maintenance
DNA and RNA Work
Southern and northern blots
Mini and maxi preps
RT-PCR/PCR and real-time PCR
Western blot Basic Animal Care and Techniques
General husbandry (mice only)
CO2 euthanization and cervical dislocation.
Tail and toe clipping
Extraction of genomic
DNA and genotyping by PCR
Dissection of mice and harvest of various tissues
Collection of blood
Tissue sectioning and staining
Flow cytometry and data analysis

Qualified applicants will have a four-year college degree in Biology, be very dependable and organized, have excellent communication skills, and interact well with other people.
Previous experience with mouse handling and genotyping is preferred.
Applicants who have great interest in basic research and plan to go to graduate schools or medical schools will be given preferential consideration.
