The School of Education is a dynamic school with vibrant and enthusiastic faculty who are involved with local schools in teacher development, service and research.  The school offers several degree programs in a number of fields.  The students come from multi-cultural, multi-lingual environments, primarily from pacific island settings.  The teaching areas in the school are Early Childhood/Elementary, Elementary, Secondary Language, Elementary with Chamorro Language and Culture specialty, Secondary, Physical Education, Special Education, Reading, Educational Foundations, Counseling and Administration and Supervision.


This position is in a National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE)/Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) nationally recognized program that prepares undergraduate teacher candidates to teach 6-12 health and physical education.  Strong commitment to teacher education and preparing teacher candidates to meet the NASPE beginning Teacher Standards.  This individual will hold a membership in professional organization, serve on college and department committees, and participate in official activities at the school. College and university levels, and provide leadership for NASPE/CAEP accreditation.  Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in physical education and health pedagogy.  Content specific courses may include, but are not limited to:  elementary and secondary pedagogy, motor development and learning, as well as curriculum and assessment.  Assignment may include teaching one or more professional preparation courses including team sports, education gymnastics, movement education and dance, team building, or racquet sports.  Opportunity exists to be involved in the development of a graduate program.  Willingness and ability to apply technology in physical education is important.


Minimum: Terminal degree in education or related field with a master’s degree in physical education from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent with an emphasis in pedagogy and demonstrated ability to work with teacher candidates.  Candidates must demonstrate evidence of collaborative involvement in professional services, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with diverse populations.  Candidates must be interested in engaging in scholarly/creative activities, professional development, student advising, and committee involvement.  Evidence or promise of productive scholarship, which includes grant writing, peer reviewed publication, and professional presentations is required.  Three (3) years teaching experience in 6-12 physical education and health, expertise in adapted physical education, using tactical approach or teaching games for understanding and integration of technology into physical education is highly desirable. ABDs will be considered if within six (6) months of conferral of degree.  Must be willing to teach online.

Preferred: Experience in university teaching and in supervising fieldwork and student teachers.  Experience working in National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)/CAEP and NASPE accreditation.  Preference will be given to candidates who have multiple 6-12 experiences or certifications. Experience working with online learning programs.
