The Robert Crown Law Library, primarily serving Stanford Law School, seeks an Access Services Specialist who will provide excellent library services to the Law School and to the greater Stanford Community during evening and weekend hours. This position will report to the Head of Access Services.

Working under the supervision of Head of Access Services, Access Services Specialists are responsible for staffing the Circulation Desk and providing a range of library services. Additionally, they monitor access points, enforce library policies, monitor library study-space and provide delivery services. The Access Services team collaborates on a range of projects such as reserves processing, scanning and delivery of library material, creating documentation, and other duties as assigned. In this position, you will spend the majority of your shift performing access and circulation work at library service points during evening hours and on weekends. To be successful, you must provide friendly, professional, and courteous service as you:
Perform all circulation processing duties.
Shelve, shelf-read, and organize library collections
Fulfill patron requests in-person, by phone, and through online platforms at a high degree of accuracy, timeliness, and courtesy
Implement emergency protocols, including staying in close communication with management
Enforce library policies in a professional manner
Demonstrate an aptitude for technology; willingness to learn new systems, software, and data manipulation tools
Perform library opening and closing duties
Perform scanning and delivery services
Submit recommendations and feedback to library administration based on observations and interactions with library patrons
Collect and maintain library statistics and documents work
Assist with space assignments and online reservations
Assist with training and supervising of student assistants

Perform routine catalog maintenance, receiving, and/or copy cataloging.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
To Be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Four-year college degree plus one or more years of experience in an academic library, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Two years of demonstrated proficiency using word processing and spreadsheets across various platforms.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in varied teams within a dynamic library and university environment.
  • Commitment to diversity and experience working with diverse populations.

    In addition, our preferred requirements include:
  • Two years of experience with automated library systems, preferably Sirsi Workflows.
  • Master's degree from an ALA accredited library science program or ALA approved foreign equivalent.

    *Please note that this position will require working on evenings and weekends with some schedule variations throughout the academic year. You may occasionally be assigned overtime.
