Position Summary

The Department of Psychology is seeking a Unit Human Resources Coordinator to assist with the administration of human resources, training, employee development, facilities, and equipment inventory.  This position will coordinate hiring, training, employee development, performance management and related human resources activities including: processing faculty, academic staff, and support staff position requests, hiring forms, reappointment forms, and change of status forms; overseeing open positions in the applicant tracking system and closing out the search in the applicant tracking system once an employee is hired; overseeing departmental orientation; coordinating training for support staff and student employees; maintaining and recommending updates to departmental job descriptions; assisting supervisory personnel in developing and maintaining performance management information; maintaining departmental personnel files; serving as a liaison between departmental supervisory personnel and administrative leaders; preparing visa requests and process appointment forms for visiting scholars; and maintaining or increasing human resources knowledge through coursework, attendance at workshops and seminars, or outside reading. This position will also coordinate facility maintenance and will assist with maintaining space and equipment inventory. Special projects, participation on committees, and assisting with general administrative activities will be assigned as needed.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in human resources, business management, or a related social science field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a human resources function or an area related to departmental operations; experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, and presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Desired Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of Michigan State University's policies and procedures in academic and non-academic personnel matters; strong interpersonal skills; general working knowledge of MSU's business procedures; experience working with EBS/SAP/PageUP; excellent communication skills; self-starter with ability to follow through and prioritize multiple tasks.
