Job Description
  • This position is responsible for advising students on program and degree completion.

  • Advise graduate students and candidates in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CONHS). Assist students with course selection, registration processes, and the processing of various academic forms. Assist students with nursing program application processes. Write degree plans. Verify program requirements. Communicate accurate and timely information and interprets institutional and major requirements. Evaluate transfer nursing student files. Assist students with making a successful transition to the university. Direct students to appropriate resources and programs when necessary. Maintain accurate and complete student file documentation. Track student progress and provide appropriate interventions and contact to help students become successful. Document advising contacts adequately. Complete degree audits for final graduation certification and clears students for graduation. Maintain university database on all students. Respond to inquiries about the nursing program.
  • Advise outreach staff, faculty, and students on degree requirements. Provide guidance in student recruitment. Facilitate College administration participation in the execution of TAMUCC and CONHS student admission, progression, and graduation procedures. Prepare student files for committee review including degree audit system review, evaluate transfer coursework, and validate completion of program/application requirements. Monitor application status to facilitate appropriate registration for courses.
  • Attend and participate in University wide academic advising meetings. Attend and participate in training and professional development events and/or activities.
  • Lead graduate student recruitment at local hospitals, colleges and health fairs, support recruitment and orientation activities for undergraduate program as needed. Represent the CONHS and assists with other student events. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two (2) years of related experience in advising or working with students in higher education.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team member and to work independently.
  • Demonstrated initiative and follow-through skills; tact, diplomacy, and judgment in dealing with students, parents, faculty, and administrators.
  • Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience advising students in higher education.
  • Experience with Banner, Argos, Starfish, and Degree Works.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental academic advising methodologies.

Pay Range:
  • $2,780.17 - $2,916.67
