The Dean position will be located on the Central Campus.

The Dean of Health Professions and Human Services is responsible for providing leadership to programs in allied health, health sciences, nursing, and human services disciplines including Cardiovascular Technology, Cytotechnology, Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Developmental Disabilities, Health Information Technology, Human Services Technology, Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Technology, Nursing, Nurse Aide, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Ophthalmic Medical Personnel, Pharmacy Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, Substance Abuse, and Surgical Technology. The Dean provides leadership and administrative oversight for faculty, staff, and programs in the areas of workforce and career education, evaluates and ensures quality in all aspects of instructional programs and staff, and engages faculty and staff in support of educational priorities such as program development, program review, curriculum and articulation initiatives, assessment of student learning outcomes and learning college initiatives.

The Dean provides day-to-day oversight of division culture to ensure a student/learner centered, environment at all levels, is the final arbitrator of student issues, communicates and interprets policies and procedures, and develops and oversees instructional budgets, oversees class schedules, classroom and facilities utilization, and coordinates programs and services with other college personnel.

This position will report to the Vice President for Learning and Workforce Development.

General Function
Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and directing academic, faculty, and administrative activities to ensure that the assigned programs comply with College standards, policies, and procedures. In addition, the dean will manage multiple projects, serve as liaison with internal and external individuals and groups, develop and manage grants, and contribute to workforce and economic development efforts

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates assigned activities with division directors, directors, other deans, associate vice presidents, the Vice-President for Learning and Workforce Development, and with outside agencies and organizations.
  2. Ensures quality of all instructional programs for which the dean is responsible.
  3. Provides leadership in developing, implementing, and maintaining curriculum and programs that respond to community needs, prepare students for success, and which meet the external requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and School and other accrediting agencies.
  4. Provides leadership for enhancing the visibility, enrollment, and resources of the campus and/or programs.
  5. Provides input on the recruitment, hiring, supervision, training, and evaluation of all assigned program staff in cooperation with the appropriate college dean, manager, or division director.
  6. Reviews and provides input on established performance objectives and performance reviews, and implements college personnel policies and procedures for assigned staff in cooperation with the appropriate college dean, manager, or division director.
  7. Directs the development and administration of budget as appropriate; directs the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment and supplies; monitors, recommends, and/or approves expenditures.
  8. Seeks/manages alternative funding resources which may include donations, grants, Service Corp, CCE or self-supporting.
  9. Represents the campus and programs at college-wide, instructional, and community meetings.
  10. Confers with and provides assistance and advice to the president, vice-presidents, associate vice-presidents and deans; develops, prepares, and presents recommendations and reports as requested.
  11. Carries out day-to-day supervision of assigned faculty/staff.
  12. Counsels and advises students and staff; suggests appropriate courses of action.
  13. Develops appropriate partnerships with businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies.
  14. Serves on committees and task forces; represents the college at internal and external functions.
  15. Participates in the development and expansion of course offerings for campus and/or assigned programs.
  16. Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Campus responsibilities if applicable:

  1. Oversees and coordinates the operations of the campus; supervises and coordinates room assignments and scheduling; develops, recommends changes, and continually evaluates campus operations.
  2. Manages the day-to-day operation of the campus and oversees activities such as parking, security, physical plant, and bookstore.
  3. Co-leads the facility programming effort for campus expansions or remodeling.
  4. Provides leadership for enhancing the visibility, enrollment, and resources of the campus
  5. Consult with the appropriate college unit regarding personnel decisions, office space, and evaluation of staff members assigned to that individual campus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Characteristics

  • Knowledge of instructional needs, learning outcomes, and leading learning organizations
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of college level instructional administration
  • Knowledge of principles of supervision including performance appraisal
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of faculty and student recruitment and counseling

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a health related field and two to five years of instructional management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a health related field
  • Demonstrates a collaborative leadership style
