LIM College – Where Business Meets Fashion is currently seeking candidates for the position of Director of Academic Advising.

Founded in 1939, LIM College educates students for success in the global business of fashion and its many related industries. The Director of Academic Advising oversees the Office of Academic Advising and all related functions, including direct supervision of advising staff. The Director provides leadership and guidance in the development, implementation, and maintenance of an academic advising system for all students (except graduate and online) to ensure proper course selection and adherence to curriculum plans for majors and concentrations. The Director oversees support programs to help ensure student success, including the First Year Experience (FYE) program. The Director will work closely and collaboratively with key senior administrators including the Vice President for Academic Affairs, College Registrar, Dean of Student Affairs, and Dean of Admissions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
  • Oversee management of Office of Academic Advising
  • Provide supervisory support for Office of Academic Advising staff
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an academic advising system for students (not to include graduate students and students in online program)
  • Continuously evaluate office functions and advising systems to ensure optimal services are provided to students
  • Actively participate in professional organizations
  • Utilize knowledge of best practices in advising and higher education to make positive enhancements to office
  • Maintain record of up-to-date curriculum requirements for majors and concentrations
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of Experiential Education and Career Management (EECM) in providing seamless service to students in regards to EECM course selection, internships, and curriculum requirements.
  • Ensure active representation of office on college-wide committees, including the Academic Affairs Council.
  • Help develop and implement college-wide student-retention efforts.
  • Maintain a small caseload of students to advise on academic matters including course selection, curriculum plans, transfer credits, and course registration.
  • Collect and analyze data related to student success and retention, using the data to make changes to service.
  • Review course equivalencies and relevancy to degree requirements for LIM College students taking courses at other colleges
  • Partner with the Registrar on managing academic withdrawals and related student matters
  • Coordinate with other departments to help address student concerns
  • Maintain knowledge and record of curriculum policy updates that impact students
  • Develop and offer regular advising workshops both online and in-person
  • Ensure office representation at various events such as open houses and transfer fairs
  • Participate in college wide programs
  • Ensure office is in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Maintains and updates advising-related forms, databases, and materials
  • Develop and run the First Year Experience (FYE) program and train FYE student mentors and faculty
  • Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS: The person selected will have the following qualifications: Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Knowledge of the Transfer Evaluation System
  • 5-7 years of equivalent full-time employment
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience in Academic Advising with college-age students preferred
  • Experience with budgets
  • Experience with academic-advising best practices and related forms and software
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in field of Higher Education and/or Counseling preferred
  • Knowledge of Business and/or Fashion Education preferred
