Professional Research Assistant

Job Summary:

A full time professional research assistant (PRA) position is available in the Division of Endocrinology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The PRA will be involved in various laboratory procedures, including cell based assays, molecular biology approaches, analysis of clinical samples, and animal models.


The PRA will have routine lab maintenance responsibilities including organizing and ordering supplies and reagents, organizing lab databases, preparation of tissue culture and bacterial media, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. This position will also perform and assist with experiments to investigate molecular mechanisms relevant to thyroid cancer using in vitro and in vivo mouse models. In vitro experiments will include proliferation assays, Western blotting, maintenance and freezing of cell lines, preparation of RNA, DNA, and protein extracts from primary and immortalized cell lines, as well as patient tissue samples. Microscopy, gene transfections, lentiviral, retroviral, and adenoviral transductions, and subcloning will also be performed with this position. In vivo experiments will include mouse model systems and care related to animal work.


Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The successful applicant will have experience with mice and cell culture and expertise in molecular biology, including DNA and RNA isolation, Western blotting, transfections, and PCR. Candidate must be familiar with Word and Excel. The candidate must be a highly motivated and resourceful researcher and be able to work independently to move the project forward.

Minimum Requirements: Experience, Education, Licensure:

The candidate should have a Bachelors of Science degree in the Biological Sciences or Biochemistry, with a minimum of two years of molecular biology laboratory experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Qualities desired for the position:

Experience in cellular signaling pathways and animal models.
