Managing Co Director Wolfpack Investor Network

Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Wolfpack Investor Network (WIN) connects alumni investors with promising NC State-affiliated early-stage startup companies for the purpose of facilitating angel investments. WIN will curate startup investment opportunities, coordinate company reviews using student teams, provide members with access to startup company information through a members-only website, and facilitate the communication between WIN members and the startup company. WIN members will make investments directly in the startup companies. WIN itself will not make investment decisions or recommendations. WIN will work collaboratively with the existing Duke Angel Network (DAN) and the proposed Carolina Angel Network (CAN) to establish the new Triangle Venture Alliance (TVA). Through this alliance, all three networks will share best practices, resources and ultimately investment opportunities.
Essential Job Duties: The co-managing director will be responsible for sourcing startup companies including managing the investment process, the member IT platform and company assessment logistics. The co-managing director will be responsible for coordinating all WIN investment opportunities. This will include: scouting for promising startup companies with ties to NC State, coordinating the collection of information from applying companies, recruiting student interns to support company review, managing logistics and preparations for pitch events, preparing investment opportunity assessments using student teams and in coordination with the Director of the NC State TEC program, and coordinating investment transaction processes between companies and members. The co-managing director will also monitor deal term sheets developed by the applicant startup company, WIN members and outside legal counsel. He/she will communicate with companies as necessary during all stages of the investment process, including providing feedback to companies in a timely fashion. The position will oversee all aspects of WIN financial transactions and provide frequent updates to the WIN Advisory Committee and Steering Committee and will coordinate with the Carolina Angel Network (CAN) and Duke Angel Network (DAN) leadership to implement best practices and work to share resources as appropriate. In coordination with the co-managing director of the Membership, will organize all WIN events, including applicant company pitch events, the WIN Annual Meeting, WIN Advisory Board meetings, regional pitch, and networking events.
Minimum Education/Experience: Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus at least three years of entrepreneurial or investment experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Department Required Skills: * Entrepreneurial experience and familiarity with angel investment; * Ability to conceptualize and effectively articulate a long-term vision for the Network to internal and external stakeholders; * Credibility with local entrepreneurial and investment community; * Outstanding interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; and * Ability to motivate and manage a team effectively to achieve strategic goals.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Preferred: post-baccalaureate credentials or a Bachelor's degree with at least five years of entrepreneurial or investment experience. Ideal candidates have graduate level training (MBA preferred), previous experience managing or administering an investment fund, work experience with significant administrative and reporting duties, and outstanding overall business acumen, leadership and project management skills.
