COMPENSATION & BENEFITS SPECIALIST
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Compensation & Benefits Specialist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the HR Director. This position carries out responsibilities in assisting in the administration of the employment process; evaluation program, retirement plans, and/or various employee benefit plans such as health, life, dental, and disability insurance, pension plans, vacation leave, sick leave, and leave of absences, also assisting in the administration of various employee concerns. This is a hands-on position that involves customer service, data entry, counseling, and analysis skills. This position receives direction from the Director of Human Resources and exercises no supervision. Note: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience in Human Resources performing in an HR position, or an equivalent combination of additional education, training and experience.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Personnel Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Science or related field.

Knowledge of: (1) MCC policies and procedures. (2) Teacher Retirement System (TRS), ORP, 403(b) and 457 retirement plans; (3) employment laws; (4) various benefit programs; (5) records management and statistical report preparation; (6) pertinent Federal, State, and college laws, rules, and regulations. Ability to: (7) perform all responsibilities with limited supervision and ensure that the Director of Human Resources is informed of major activities, sensitive issues and progress toward objectives; (8) use diplomacy in counseling employees on benefit and/or employment issues; (9) analyze information and obtain accurate conclusions; (10) effectively organize, prioritize, and work on projects simultaneously; (11) work efficiently with others; (12) communicate effectively both orally and in writing; (13) accurately maintain files and records; (14) effectively organize and prioritize all job related responsibilities; (15) operate office machines and equipment including computers; (16) exercise superior customer service when dealing with a large diverse population.
Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort. Must be available for some flexible scheduling.
