Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The Assistant Director oversees planning, assessment and coordination of all fitness and aquatics programming, and partners with the associate director related to the vision and planning of all Student Campus Recreation wellbeing functions. Provides oversight of fitness space, group fitness studios, and programming schedules. Oversees planning, operation, assessment and risk management of indoor and outdoor pools. Supervises the fitness coordinator and student staff in aquatics and fitness. Assists with special event coordination.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Min 2 years collegiate recreation experience working with fitness and/or aquatics programming or 4 years recreation programming for a municipal recreation program or related experiences
• Supervisory or related transferable skills
• Ability to delegate tasks as appropriate

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Science/Physiology or related field

Min 3 years of direct experience with:
o Professional and student personnel supervision at the collegiate recreation level; including aquatic facility maintenance and programming.
o Aquatic programming and maintenance experience
o Personal training and group fitness instruction experience
o Implementation and management of group fitness programs, personal training and wellness programs
o Management and supervision of all related fitness equipment and spaces

The Department of Campus Recreation organizes and administers a variety of structured and self-directed recreational services that enhance the overall wellness of the university community. Our primary goal is to provide quality recreational experiences directed toward positive change in the physical, cognitive and social domains of the university community thus enhancing the overall educational experience. This goal is accomplished by offering a wide variety of recreational activities, conducting educational workshops and providing professional training. The Department of Campus Recreation provides a multi-faceted program, which includes: Informal Recreation, Group Exercise/Fitness Programs, Competitive Sports (Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs) Seahawk Adventure Programs, Aquatics, and Special Events. Campus Recreation at UNCW takes a “something for everyone” approach to programming.
