The University of Virginia Department of Sociology invites applications for a postdoctoral Research Associate position for the "Insurgent Artifacts" project. The candidate will be responsible for conducting research, interpreting data, and managing general project operations, including coordinating a team of undergraduate RAs and supporting the completion of scholarly reports, publications, and project web site materials. Travel to research sites (domestic US) will be required. The candidate will be required to teach one course on a topic related to the project research in AY 2019-20, and will have the opportunity to participate in department and university events.
Candidates must have experience in archaeological data, satellite imagery, and quantitative analysis, as well as familiarity with the literature on archaeological remote sensing and conflict archaeology. Proficiency in NVivo and ArcGIS, and experience in qualitative methods is preferred. Candidates must hold a PhD in Sociology, Archaeology or another social scientific field related to the project research topic by the position start date. The appointment will start no later than April 1, 2019.
This is a one-year appointment; however, appointments may be renewed for an additional two, one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
