Mills College invites applications for an open rank, tenure track Professor in Teacher Education, with an emphasis in secondary education, and Educational Leadership. This position will begin August 2019. The School of Education credential program has an outstanding reputation for preparing teachers for urban schools, who have a commitment for social justice and social change through education. The successful candidate will oversee the Humanities Single Subject Teacher Credential Program, guide and coordinate the work of field supervisors and cooperating teachers, and serve as the advisor for Humanities Single Subject teacher candidates. In addition, the successful candidate will teach in the Educational Leadership program, including courses such as Curricular Leadership and Professional Development and Learning for Teachers, supervise doctoral students dissertation work, participate in recruitment and admissions activities, and engage actively in service to the School of Education and the College.
The successful applicant will be a recognized scholar, with a successful record of scholarly achievement and demonstrated administrative and leadership abilities. Applicants will need to demonstrate excellence in teaching in higher education, including experience in active learning and pedagogical innovation; and have practical and research experience and expertise in secondary education and social change, with an emphasis on teaching humanities in urban settings. We are interested in candidates with a disposition and vision to build upon the strengths of our credential program, a demonstrated capacity for leadership, experience and interest in preparing teachers for urban contexts, ability to collaborate with other faculty and local communities, and experience and interest in integrating technology in teacher education.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Education or related field. Experience teaching in secondary schools in one or more of the humanities (i.e., Social Science, English, or Art) is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of inquiry, and a record of research in teacher education. Women and other traditionally underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
