Longwood is part of the proud tradition of higher education in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Roughly one- hour’s drive from Lynchburg, Charlottesville and Richmond, Longwood is located in the historic two-college community of Farmville, at a historic crossroads near where the Civil War drew to a close and powerful strides in the civil rights movement began.  Today, Longwood has more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 34,000 alumni.  It maintains affiliations with the neighboring Robert Russa Moton Museum of civil rights history and the Longwood Center for Visual Arts, one of just a few dozen nationally accredited university art museums.  A member of the Big South Conference, Longwood competes at the NCAA Division I level.  Longwood’s 26th President, W. Taylor Reveley IV, took office in June 2013.

As the financial leader of the university, the VPAF is responsible for effective tactical, strategic and entrepreneurial management of the business affairs of the University.  The VPAF reports to the President and is a member of the senior management team.  The position plays a central role in advancing the University’s mission through effective and creative deployment of its human and financial resources.  The Vice President is the University’s Chief Business Officer and has primary responsibility for all finance and budget operations. 

The successful candidate will be required to think strategically, be entrepreneurial, work collaboratively, and be both flexible and creative in managing areas of responsibility.  The position further requires an unwavering commitment to the University’s academic vision; the ability to function consultatively and collegially with varied internal and external constituencies; the ability to effectively communicate complex financial and business affairs information and issues to those same constituencies; and a solid working knowledge of policies and procedures in public higher education and NACUBO standards and guidelines.

The University seeks candidates with a Master’s Degree in Accounting, Business or related field.  Extensive experience in financial administration and management required, preferably in higher education.  The successful candidate must demonstrate superior oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, be service oriented and innovative and creative in implementing financial and administrative strategies.  The new VPAF will have a proven track record of strategic decision making and leadership, as well as knowledge of facilities planning and management, and budget development and management.  A collaborative person of integrity with the ability to communicate effectively with the Board, colleagues across the University, and external constituents is critical.
