The Executive Director of Institutional Research (IR) provides strategic leadership to institutional research functions, including identifying information needs; collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting data and information; serving as steward of data and information; educating information producers, users, and consumers; able to communicate with staff to direct data analysis projects for customers; and, able to communicate with customers to establish the course of action to secure the information desired. Coordinate the administrative work flow processes among the various units reporting to the Vice President and/or Associate Vice President or Provost; perform other related duties as assigned. This position will report to the CIO.



  • Lead, develop, and supervise a team of full-time and part-time employees in the Office of Institutional Research which is comprised of analytical, technical, and support staff;
  • Ensure the University meets its statutory and voluntary reporting requirements in an accurate and timely fashion;
  • Support decision-makers with metrics and data analysis in a timely fashion necessary to make data-informed decisions;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to advance data quality efforts that identify issues and remedies to assure that high quality data are gathered for strategic decision-making;
  • Envision, procure, and maintain data analytics, reporting, and visualization capabilities for the University;
  • Work with different units at the University to guide, design, and conduct research to support academic planning, enrollment management, and accreditation and program assessment in support of increasing academic excellence and improving student success;
  • Serve as the University’s liaison to the University System of Georgia’s Department of Research and Policy Analysis, and;
  • Support data needs for disciplinary accreditation.


  • At least ten years of experience in collecting and retrieving data, statistical analysis and reporting;
  • Experience with large scale databases, complex analytical systems, and statistical software to deliver solutions to serve institutional data, information, and analytical needs;
  • Minimum of two years of experience with enterprise systems for students, personnel, and finance;
  • Understanding of data governance practices and the ability to inform the campus community on data governance issues;
  • Must have the ability to deal with multiple tasks or projects at one time;
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgement, technology, organization, time management, and project management skills;
  • Must possess an understanding of the unique culture of public higher education;
  • Must be proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position;
  • Must have strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of internal as well as external stakeholders;
  • Must have working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to privacy and confidentiality of data;
  • Must have strong analytical, written and oral communication, research, and presentation skills, and;
  • Must have a strong customer service approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve the campus community’s use of data by increasing data literacy of all users of institutional data;
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and appropriately communicate findings and recommendations to users;
  • Knowledge of issues and current trends in higher education;
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques, research methodology, data, and analysis;
  • Knowledge of the technological requirements needed to manage and interact with large data sets and the ability to work closely with IT to create sustainable, efficient, and secure data processes


  • Knowledge of how to evaluate institutional effectiveness and assessment through external mechanisms such as SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation is highly desirable
