Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Law Enforcement Officer I in the Public Safety Office.   This position is a  shift supervisor, senior law enforcement officer on duty. Will be responsible for compliance with Public Safety plans, instructions, operating procedures and other directives. This person is responsible for accomplishing all daily shift assignments in a timely manner. Performs patrol duties. maintains radio and telephone communications, provide direct supervision of two Public Safety officers and any work-study students assigned to Public Safety. Will track, analyze and report in evaluation reports and disciplinary action as required. Must be able to provide leadership, support, staff development and problem-resolution ensuring effectiveness through performance measurement tools and proactive management and assist in orientation and continues training of newly assigned officers.

Establishes and supervises traffic and parking, provides emergency response, investigates criminal activities, investigates vehicle and other accidents, secure crime scenes completing associated reports as necessary. Maintain a good working relationship with other local police agencies in order to readily give and/or receive information and in absence of Director/Deputy Director greet a variety of callers from the public and private sector, ascertain the purpose of their visit, referring the caller to the proper division, staff member, or if necessary arranging a meeting date for the caller. 


Minimum Qualifications:

 Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice or High School/GED diploma/certificate and knowledge supplemented by completion of formal courses in criminal justice. Must have at least two (2) years of law enforcement experience.  Must have the ability to achieve certification through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Police experience or comparable military or related experience is required. Applicant must be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format. Maintain Firearms qualification. Operate office computer and sophisticated alarms and equipment. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a current South Carolina Driver's License is required. The officer must possess leadership, motivational analytical, organizational and verbal/written communication skills. Willing to develop and support the creation of a positive department structure. The inbound/outbound customer service experience is an automated environment. Basic knowledge of administrative functions to include basic keyboarding/and word processing/report writing/filing.
