Associate Chancellor and Chief of Staff


Reporting directly to the Chancellor, the Associate Chancellor and Chief of Staff assists in implementing the Chancellor's vision and goals for the campus, working in close collaboration with the Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor, Vice Chancellors and Deans. The Associate Chancellor plays a critical support role in strategic planning, decision-making, and execution of decisions, serving as a member of the Chancellor's Cabinet and other advisory groups. The Associate Chancellor provides advice to the Chancellor and coordination and liaison with other senior campus officials on virtually any matter of interest to the Chancellor, including policy, programs, personnel, and community and legislative relations. The Associate Chancellor acts on behalf of the Chancellor in discussions with the Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans and the CEO of the UC Irvine Medical Center, as well as the UC Irvine Foundation trustees, the UC Office of the President, and the Office of the Regents.

The Associate manages confidential and sensitive issues for the Chancellor and develops solutions to a wide range of issues in all areas of campus operations involving the Chancellor. The Associate Chancellor manages special campus committees and search committees for senior management positions reporting to the Chancellor. The Associate Chancellor performs a wide range of duties requiring tact, sensitivity, independent judgment, diplomacy, organizational skills, flexibility, and strict confidentiality.

As Chief of Staff, the Associate Chancellor oversees management of the staff of the Chancellor's Office and provides budgetary and programmatic guidance for the Chancellor's Office and related units including Tierney University House, the Office of Campus Counsel, the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, and Strategic Communications. The Associate Chancellor also works closely with the Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor, and members of his/her staff.

Salary: Commensurate with Experience.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., M-F
