Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NCSU Libraries serves as the gateway to recorded knowledge and information for the NC State community and its partners, offering a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining the best faculty and students to the university. The Learning Spaces & Services department provides dynamic services, spaces, and technologies to enable all forms of learning, discovery, and research. It sponsors workshops, programs, and activities that create opportunities for students and faculty to explore and apply tools and systems for data visualization, 3D modeling, virtual environments, and digital media creation. Support for teaching and learning encompasses development of online learning content and interactive learning experiences, chat and face-to-face help on demand, and engagement with undergraduate research and other student-centered programs at the university. Essential Job Duties: The NCSU Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Student Success & Engagement Librarian. The Libraries supports student success by engaging students early and throughout their time at the university, with services focused on core information and data literacies as well as emerging digital and technological literacies to help students develop lifelong learning and research skills. The Libraries enables student learning by providing access to advanced visualization and digital media facilities and experimental spaces, through technology lending, and through teaching, whether in one-on-one consultation, along with faculty, or as part of a workshop or event. In partnership with the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, the Libraries will open an Academic Success Center at the D. H. Hill Library in 2020. This and surrounding spaces will include advising and tutoring and will highlight student work, undergraduate research, and innovation. The Student Success & Engagement Librarian works with library colleagues, other campus student support units, academic departments, and students to leverage and promote Libraries resources that contribute to student success. With the goal of creating meaningful connections with undergraduate students, this position develops and delivers a range of creative and informative student engagement experiences, including coordinating the Libraries participation in campus-wide student orientation activities, hosting special events, workshops and pop-ups. These experiences and events include highly successful collaborations and activities such as the Long Night Against Procrastination, Make-A-Thon, Packapalooza, and Making Space. The incumbent will develop and grow the Libraries' collaborative relationships with student-oriented programs and services such as the University Tutorial Center, Living and Learning Communities, TRIO, academic enrichment programs in the arts and undergraduate research, and academic success initiatives from Summer START to Exploratory Studies. The person in this role also plays a key role in the department's Teaching and Learning team, developing and delivering curriculum integrated library instruction in key gateway courses such as ENG 101 and COM 110. This position serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams. NCSU librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. The position reports to the Associate Head, Learning Spaces & Services.

Minimum Education/Experience: ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent advanced degree in library science or information science

Department Required Skills: * Relevant professional experience, including providing instruction in a library or higher education setting * Experience with digital media including some combination of video and audio production, 3D modeling, data visualization, and/or game design. * Demonstrated record of engagement with a user community and commitment to creative, high-quality library services and facilities. * Commitment to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion in the classroom and workplace. * Demonstrated ability to explore and incorporate emerging technologies into learning and research support. * Ability to plan, design, and implement new services and programs. * Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in writing. * Ability to work independently and in a team environment. * Demonstrated record of ongoing professional development.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Demonstrated experience creating active learning workshops/courses using digital media and/or other technologies.
