Position Summary: The School of Government works to improve the lives of North Carolinians by engaging in practical scholarship that helps public officials and citizens understand and improve state and local government. The Development Finance Initiative (DFI) is a program of the School of Government that assists local governments in North Carolina with attracting private investment for community development by providing specialized finance and development expertise. Since its inception in 2011, DFI has been engaged in over 100 projects in multiple states, including: building reuse and downtown revitalization; master development planning and execution; community and neighborhood development; and economic development, including small business finance programs and assessment of underutilized assets. The Associate Director reports to the faculty Director and is responsible for: 1) client relations, marketing, and DFI operations related to business development and community engagement; 2) serving as backup to the Deputy Director for other DFI operations; 3) convening senior staff, in coordination with Deputy Director, to determine project assignments for project managers and graduate student fellows; 4) serving as senior specialist for assigned projects; 5) contributing to the educational mission by supporting professional and full-time student courses; 6) providing high-level technical expertise and assistance in development finance and public-private partnerships to local governments and other community-based organizations in North Carolina. This is a high-visibility position - the initial face of DFI for most communities seeking DFI services - relied upon heavily to deliver public and private presentations. Education Requirements: Master's degree in business, real estate development, planning, public administration, or equivalent required.

Qualification and Experience: Excellent research, writing, analytical, technical skills in real estate development and finance, public speaking and management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and partnerships. Possess strong planning, organizational and coordination skills to manage simultaneous projects efficiently. Ability to work independently and take initiative on community advising projects within a collaborative environment is essential. Presentation, financial modeling, and mapping skills are required. Must have minimum two years' experience. Successful candidates will have interest in creating triple-bottom line returns for community and economic development projects in distressed areas of North Carolina.
