Primary Function of Organization Unit: Enterprise Application Services (EAS) is in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) division at North Carolina State University. EAS is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, enhancement, maintenance & upgrade of the University's enterprise business applications. This includes development, operation & maintenance of all enterprise administrative systems (Advancement, Financials, HR, Portal and Student Information Systems, etc.), configuration management, maintenance, enhancements, and application integration. The Database Administration Services (DBA) team within EAS is responsible for administering all centralized database environments of the University. It conducts database installation and maintenance, performs database administration and operational support, provides database design and consultation, ensures database security and performance, and also handles bulk data moves.
Essential Job Duties: The Database Administrator will: - Provide support for production and development databases - Participate in patching the Exadata server appliance - Provide after hours on call support in a team rotation - Install and administer Oracle database software - Install and administer Oracle Enterprise Manager along with packs and plug-ins - Backup, restore and duplicate utilizing RMAN and catalogs - Diagnose and resolve performance problems on RAC infrastructure with development teams - Diagnose and resolve minor to complex problems with Oracle databases - Work with Oracle support to resolve issues that require software corrections - Collaborate with team members, peers, customers and management on processes, procedures, documentation and future directions - Provide documentation for areas in which you are the lead as well as documentation for problem resolutions you encounter - Provide solution and support for PCI compliance of NCSU's databases - Make recommendations to management on future technology direction
Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related area; or a Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Department Required Skills: - Experience as an Oracle database administrator including experience on 12c - Experience with managing databases using Oracle's Enterprise Manager, version 12 and up - Experience with multi-tenant architecture including creation and recovery of pluggable databases - Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills - Must be able to work in a team environment, sharing and collaborating - Must be able to work independently and manage time in an interrupt driven environment
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - Experience with Oracle's Dataguard is desired
