Executive Vice President and Provost

Louisiana State University (LSU) is searching for a dynamic leader to serve as the next Executive Vice President and Provost (EVPP) for one of the most culturally and academically unique institutions in the nation. The EVPP serves as both the chief academic officer for LSU’s campuses and institutions across the state, and as the Provost for the flagship campus in Baton Rouge, La.

The ideal candidate will be a creative and strategic thinker who can plan and execute a future vision for LSU that will advance the university, while building upon its existing strategic plan, its historical importance to the state of Louisiana, and its many recent successes.

University Overview

The university comprises eight campuses stretching across Louisiana and includes nearly 50,000 students and research expenditures amounting to $360 million. Within LSU are two health sciences centers offering various levels of degrees in medicine, dentistry, allied health, nursing, public health, and graduate studies. The LSU Agricultural Center encompasses both extension responsibilities and agricultural research. The Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a premier research institute specializing in chronic disease, diabetes, and obesity. LSU–Shreveport offers degrees at the undergraduate and graduate level, and has an emerging online presence. LSU–Alexandria is a four-year institution serving the central region of the state. LSU–Eunice is a junior college offering degrees and certificates in health, business, and liberal arts.

The Flagship. Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College in Baton Rouge is the state’s flagship institution and is a land-, sea-, and space-grant institution enrolling nearly 32,000 students studying in nearly 200 academic baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral, and specialist programs across a comprehensive number of disciplines.

Impact. LSU’s economic impact on Louisiana totals $5.1 billion. Faculty and students contributed to the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics with the discovery of gravitational waves. Forbes recognized LSU among the Top 20 universities in the country that dominate in both academics and athletics. LSU is home to some of the nation’s top programs, including landscape architecture, consistently ranked first in the nation, and the Center for Internal Auditing, which is a world-renowned model for internal audit teaching and methods.

Opportunity to Make a Difference

The ideal candidate for the position will have an earned doctorate from an accredited institution; a record of academic achievement in teaching and scholarly activity commensurate with appointment to the rank of Professor with tenure in a discipline offered at the flagship institution; and a proven record of academic achievement and administrative experience, including proven dynamic visionary leadership and innovation regarding major issues, challenges, and future directions in higher education.

The EVPP reports directly to the LSU President, who serves as the chief executive office of the flagship institution, as well as the statewide system. The EVPP serves as the chief academic advisor to the President and the LSU Board of Supervisors. At the flagship campus, the EVPP is the chief operating officer, acts as the chief administrative officer in the absence of the President, and oversees all instruction, student support, enrollment management, and research. The EVPP works in tandem with the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration and CFO to prepare and monitor the operating budget.

The EVPP also has responsibilities to support and facilitate the academic enterprise at the campuses, especially as the primary interface with the LSU Board of Supervisors and other regulatory bodies. The responsibilities of the Provost include the articulation of an academic vision, leadership in academic strategic planning, and the development and administration of academic budgets.
