Assistant Dean, STEM
The Assistant Dean, STEM serves in an administrative non-tenured position to monitor and serve as a resource for all aspects of the instructional and support programs and coordination of those programs with the STEM division. She/he promotes a student-centered learning environment, a climate of collegiality, and divisional activities that complement the institution's mission, goals, and strategic plan. The Assistant Dean, STEM, will also collaborate with the Dean of STEM, faculty and staff in curriculum planning and development, assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes in the academic and educational support areas, and work directly with students to ensure their academic success.
Examples of Duties:
- Demonstrates commitment to the development and enhancement of a learning-centered and performance-based learning and work environment.
- Assists the STEM division in maintaining standards of instruction that are academically challenging to students.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff in the STEM division in the development of effective teaching, student support and retention strategies for students.
- Serves as a support person for program curriculum/course development, revision and evaluation in the STEM division.
- Assists the STEM division with the approval process for new programs and courses.
- Assists the STEM division with course and program submissions to the Curriculum Committee.
- Collaborates with the Dean, STEM, to provide support to the members of the STEM division.
- Serves as a resource and support person for assessment activities for the STEM division.
- Work directly with STEM students' academic pathway plans and providing advice and support to STEM students inclusive of those students in programmatic cohorts.
- Work with the Dean of STEM to develop opportunities for students including STEM academies and provide support to students within these academies.
- Maintains a high level of expertise through participation in approved professional development activities and regular review of professional journals and other publications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Master's Degree in a field of STEM or a related area of study, required, Ph.D. preferred
- Three years of teaching experience in higher education preferred
- Three years administrative experience at the level of director or division chair preferred
- Documented experience in planning and implementing activities related to assessment
- Documented experience in curriculum development and evaluation
- Documented proficiency in oral and written communications and interpersonal relations
- Documented familiarity with a variety of learning delivery systems (e.g., distance learning, weekend programming, accelerated programs)
- Commitment to and knowledge of a comprehensive community college philosophy and a student-centered learning environment
- Commitment to the community college mission including addressing the needs of a diverse student population
