University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan’s largest Catholic university, requests applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Finance and Administration. The Vice President for Finance and Administration reports directly to the president and is a member of the President’s Council. Founded in 1877 as University of Detroit by the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), it consolidated in 1990 with Mercy College of Detroit, established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1941, to form University of Detroit Mercy. The University has an annual operating budget of approximately $160 million, more than 900 employees and enrolls more than 5,100 students in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs, including Architecture, Dentistry and Law, on three campuses in Detroit. The University has consistently ranked in the top tier of U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Colleges and Universities in the Midwest.”

The Vice President, who works closely with the Finance and Investment Committees of the Board of Trustees, is responsible for several financial and administrative departments, including: Budget Planning and Administration; Facilities Management; Accounting and Financial Services; Resource and Organizational Management; Risk Management Services; Information Technology Services; Human Resources and Payroll; Police Department; and University Support Services. The successful candidate will be an accomplished strategic and financial leader with a record of success and experience in fiscal and administrative management. He/She should also possess excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated characteristics of collaborative leadership; and qualities that will facilitate and strengthen relationships with both internal and external constituencies.

The University seeks a seasoned financial professional who has had significant and broad senior-level management experience, preferably in higher education; holds a Master’s and/or a CPA or similar certificate in business or finance; demonstrated expertise in strategic financial planning, investment management, and debt financing and management; strong working knowledge of financial and information technologies; proven ability to handle a broad set of responsibilities, commitment to personal and professional integrity; and the ability and desire to support the University’s Catholic identity and mission.
