The Rady School of Management provides business education through its MBA degree programs, PhD program, other Masters programs, undergraduate minors and courses, and executive business seminars. The Director of Corporate Partnerships is a new position that will develop a strategy to create, implement, and manage the UCSD Rady School of Management’s new Corporate Partnership program, reporting to the Rady Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs. The Director is responsible for engaging and expanding new and existing corporate partnerships to benefit the UCSD Rady School of Management, aligning the priorities of the Dean of the Rady School and the Rady areas of Graduate Programs, particularly the Careers unit and tangentially impacting Executive Education and Development and Alumni Relations.

 

This position establishes and manages a portfolio of national and international executives and corporate partners with a strong focus on establishing and expanding employment and internship opportunities for Rady MBA students, and Rady graduate students in the Masters of Business Analytics, Masters of Finance, and other Masters programs. The Director develops and executes strategies that will deliver new tangible employment and internships opportunities for Rady School of Management graduate students. This position provides an interface between Rady and the business community, expanding the Rady School brand to new partners and enhancing the brand with existing partners.

 

The position represents the UCSD Rady School of Management to senior executives in corporations and executive directors in industry associations. With input from senor leadership, the Director tailors strategies to different industries in San Diego, nationally, and internationally.

 

This is a position that makes a lasting impact on our graduate business students, professionals in their own right, who carry on the Rady School's tradition of entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic development.

 

Additional deliverables are:

• Serving as a conduit for the Rady School of Management Dean: introductions/appointments at the highest-level of corporate organizations

• Promoting student sponsorship/fellowship, student capstone project opportunities, internship and employment opportunities, on and off-campus recruiting activities, including supporting student treks and immersion trips outside of San Diego

• Establishing relationships that lead to an increase in custom business seminars for corporate employers

• Establishing and enhancing opportunities leading to new corporate philanthropic activity, sponsorship of faculty research and student fellowships, etc.

 

• Must be willing and able to travel locally, domestically and internationally. Must have access to reliable transportation to travel to corporate locations and events.

• This position is not eligible for overtime pay. Evenings and weekends may be required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of ten (10) years experience in corporate relations and/or program development. Experience creating a network of corporate partners. Experience using a variety of outreach methods to establish a successful corporate/community outreach program, advisory board, mentorship program, or similar program.

• Knowledge of public relations practices. Marketing and communications experience. Experience crafting and promoting a brand. Experience serving as a representative of a brand in the community, presenting a professional, diplomatic, positive demeanor at all times.

• Experience in External Relations including Development, Communications, Stewardship, Alumni, Marketing, and Corporate/Industry Relations. Experience interacting directly with donors or corporate relations decision-makers.

• Experience evaluating individual and corporations in relationship to their readiness to provide financial and other resource support. Success in assisting with identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts from $25,000 and above.

• Rapport and communication skills geared to corporate partners, experience developing collaborations and programs between industry and academia or another not-for-profit organization/foundation or similar organization.

• Experience dealing person-to-person with corporate managers and executives in development of joint programs. Experience using creative ideas, synthesizing the needs of two different organizations to create a successful collaborative program.

• Leadership and strategic planning experience. Experience creating or participating in the creation of a mission statement and strategic plan. Experience in a start-up or in a new program/department/endeavor and the ability to oversee a program from planning to inception to steady state. Experience with budget planning and priority setting.

• A Bachelor's Degree in business administration, public relations, fundraising, communications, engineering, science, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

• Skilled communicator: includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness. Ability to use discretion and respect confidentiality. Ability to effectively interact with diplomacy, tact, and collaborative tone to build bridges with partner organizations, faculty, donors, peers and others at the University, and outside organizations, foundations, corporations. Ability to interact appropriately and with sensitivity in a culturally diverse environment.

• Maintain working relationships with colleagues, faculty, donors, and industry partners, with an emphasis on collaboration, tact, diplomacy, flexibility, professionalism, and discretion. Collaboration skills. Sales skills. Superb interpersonal skills related to quickly establishing a rapport with a wide variety of individuals. Presentation skills.

• Project management skills. Prioritization and time management skills.

• Ability to work well as a one-person, self-sufficient unit. Hands on experience using spreadsheets, creating queries, and experience manipulating data & generating reports with software. Knowledge of online systems (ideally Salesforce) and Microsoft Word suite. Experience writing quality reports and correspondence. Experience writing proposals suitable for corporate clients.

 

Preferred

• Demonstrated successful experience representing a graduate business school or similar organization, in a successful fundraising, communications, employment/careers, or outreach position.

• Experience establishing/expanding an internship/employment program for high achieving students or professional students. Experience organizing, coordinating, or supervising an internship program or employment/careers/jobs program.

• MBA preferred.

• Comprehensive understanding of the structure and needs of a professional graduate business school with a keen understanding of the importance of corporate relationships for growth and success.
