Howard Payne University invites nominations and applications for its next President. Howard Payne University’s Board of Trustees announces the search for the university’s 20th president following the retirement of Dr. Bill Ellis. The university is seeking a dynamic leader who is dedicated to the pursuit of truth, teaching, and service and who possesses a deep sense of calling to advance the integration of faith and learning through the ministry of Christian higher education.

Howard Payne University (HPU) is a Christian, coeducational university of liberal arts and professional studies affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Founded in 1889 for the purpose of preparing students for Christian ministry, Howard Payne University remains dedicated to honoring Christ and serving His Church by providing an educational experience that integrates faith, learning and living.

Today, the university offers baccalaureate and master’s degrees in 50 disciplines. Approximately 223 full-time employees serve the university. More than 1,100 students are taught by 88 full-time and 50 part-time faculty in the university’s seven schools and two off-campus teaching centers. The university is located in Brownwood, Texas, (approximate population 20,000) situated near the geographic center of the state.

As the Chief Executive Officer of the university and executive agent of the Board, the President will formulate plans and programs for and direct administration of the Howard Payne University, within authority delegated by the governing Board of Trustees (Board) by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

The new president will be a Christian and a Baptist, actively involved in a church compatible with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and possess an ability to lead faculty and staff to accomplish the mission and vision of the university. It is preferred that candidates will have an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

Although applications will be accepted until the time that a new president is appointed, candidates should submit a letter of interest and CV/resume by September 24, 2018, for most favorable consideration.
