Founded in 1903 and experiencing remarkable growth, perseverance, and maturity over its 115-year history, Gardner-Webb's 225-acre main campus is a beautiful backdrop to an environment of learning and faith. Located 50 miles west of Charlotte and 75 miles southeast of Asheville in the Piedmont area of western North Carolina, the campus is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The GWU Charlotte Center, located in Charlotte, NC offers a wide variety of graduate and degree completion programs as well as special activities and events.

GWU provides outstanding undergraduate and graduate education that is strongly grounded in the liberal arts while offering opportunities to prepare for various professions.  With a total enrollment of approximately 4,000 students, of which 2400 are undergraduates, students hail from 40 states and 15 foreign countries.  Offering a comprehensive academic program with more than 80 major fields of study, GWU offers seven undergraduate degrees, five graduate and six doctoral degrees taught by more than 160 full-time faculty members in a 13-to1 student-faculty ratio setting. Home to the Runnin’ Bulldogs and a NCAA Division I member of the Big South Conference, GWU offers 22 intercollegiate varsity sports.

Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the President serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the University with responsibility for ensuring the success of the institution’s mission, enrollment management, academic integrity, fiscal stability and viability, fundraising efforts, personnel development, and physical plant management. Positions reporting to the President and serving as members of the President’s Cabinet include: Provost and Executive Vice President; Senior Vice President for Administration; Vice President for Student Development; Vice President for External Affairs/Advancement; and Vice President for Athletics.  A larger leadership group referred to as the Senior Staff, include all Cabinet members and: Vice President for Christian Life and Services; Vice President, Marketing; Vice President for Enrollment Management; Vice President for Planning & Institutional Effectiveness; Associate Provost, Professional & Graduate Studies; Associate Provost, Arts & Sciences; Faculty Chair; and a member of the Staff Council. Overall, the President provides leadership for the University’s 160 faculty and 300 staff.

The ideal candidate will have a passion and commitment to academically excellent, student-centered liberal arts education in a Christian environment, along with a proven record of effective and successful leadership skills, whether within or outside of an academic environment.   She/he will espouse principals based on strong Christian faith: integrity, honesty, sincerity and compassion.  The successful candidate will possess exceptional interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) skills, along with a strong financial acumen and superior business management abilities.  This dynamic fundraiser will enthusiastically participate in campus, religious community, the town, county, and region activities.  Appropriate academic credentials are required; a terminal degree is preferred.  Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
