Job Summary

The Director of Career and Technical Education develops, manages, coordinates and evaluates the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at MDC in partnership with MDC WORKS: Next Generation Career Center. This position provides leadership and works with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all efforts fully support the Workforce education program. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supports the mission of MDC WORKS: Next Generation Career Center focused on CTE
  • Manages the Carl D. Perkins grant and monitors the Perkins Performance
  • Develops, implements and modifies an assessment model for CTE programs
  • Ensures that MDC CTE programs respond and meet the changing workforce demands
  • Serves as MDC lead in implementing CTE policies and procedures and ensures compliance with federal and state policies
  • Monitors, analyzes and reports federal and state activities
  • Facilitates the reporting process for industry certification performance funding
  • Leads MDC efforts in maximizing and expanding industry certification activities
  • Recommends and monitors policies and benchmarks for CTE program and provides assessment for continuation, revision or termination
  • Routinely conducts an environmental scan and reports workforce gaps or emerging workforce needs in the South Florida area and makes recommendations for program development
  • Assists in the program review process regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivering services and evaluation of services provided
  • Collects, integrates and analyzes requiring data collection, validation and analysis
  • Collaborates with the Director of School and College Relations in developing and maintaining CTE articulation agreements with the public school system and with other higher education institutions
  • Actively pursues and develops grant opportunities and serves as Grant Manager when appropriate
  • Ensures that CTE directors, deans and managers maintain active and engaged in Advisory Committees
  • Attends MDC, local and statewide occupational director/dean meetings as directed by the Executive Director of Workforce Education and Partnerships
  • Represents MDC at external meetings, as assigned, including the Talent Development Network (TDN)
  • Coordinates MDC's responses to FLDOE CTE reports, data requests and initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Education, or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in developing and leading an educational program grants, a business, or another endeavor that combines strategic thinking, careful planning and monitoring or a Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant work experience
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Substantial knowledge of local and regional labor market needs
  • Possess a strong work ethic
  • Ability to design and enact evaluation/monitoring procedures for MDC CTE initiatives
  • Strong quantitative and analytical technical skills combined with knowledge of data development and displays
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Knowledge of program evaluation and assessment
  • Excellent report writing skills (major reports)
  • Ability to acquire published and anecdotal knowledge that provides insight into workforce legislation and FCS policy guideline development
  • Knowledge of educational workforce standards that enable the individual to monitor MDC CTE programs development and performance
  • Possesses excellent collegial leadership skills
  • Strong managerial skills in making necessary CTE program continuation or discontinuation recommendations
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
