Requisition Title: Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream - Contractually Limited Term Appointment (CLTA) - User Experience and Human Computer Interaction (UXD/HCI) and/or Information Systems Design (ISD) - 1803801

The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto invites applications for a two-year Contractually Limited-Term Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream beginning on September 1, 2018, or shortly thereafter, and ending on August 31, 2020. The position is in the area of User Experience and Human Computer Interaction (UXD/HCI) and/or Information Systems Design (ISD).

We seek individuals who have expertise in user interface principles, theoretical foundations of HCI, user behaviour, user requirements gathering, usability evaluations, participatory design, and app and web design as well as computational thinking, python programming, data modeling, and databases. We seek enthusiastic individuals with the ability and ambition to advance our Faculty's rigorous, highly-ranked Masters of Information program and our Knowledge Media Design Institute.The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the Faculty of Information and the Knowledge Media Design Institute which is an interdisciplinary unit of the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto. The Collaborative Specialization in Knowledge Media Design offers an interdisciplinary specialization to a regular departmental degree program.

Candidates must have a Master's level degree, in UXD/HCI and ISD, or a related field. The successful candidate must also have a Ph.D. in a relevant field at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, or an advanced masters in the field and an exceptional portfolio of professional work and an outstanding record of excellence in teaching. The successful candidate must have previous experience teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level, strong endorsements from referees, excellent communication and expository skills, ability to expertly incorporate current research into our graduate courses, and demonstrated excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry.

Evidence of excellence in teaching can be demonstrated by strong endorsements from referees, teaching accomplishments, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application, to include a teaching statement, teaching evaluations, and sample course syllabi and select course materials. The successful candidate must also possess the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues on our graduate courses and programs. Teaching duties are in the professional graduate program, and will include courses in the Masters of Information and the Collaborative Specialization in Knowledge Media Design.

Salary is to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
