Department Overview
The University of North Texas (UNT) has an enrollment of over 37,000 students with 166 buildings and 15 residence halls on 900 acres. The University's Department of Risk Management Services (RMS) has a commitment to comply with federal, state and local standards to provide a safe and healthful environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. The department's primary goal is to identify and respond to exposures to loss, apply measures to prevent loss, and develop processes for responding to emergencies and unexpected events on UNT property.

Job Description
The Risk Management Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Director, Insurance and Claims to join our team.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

* Lead insurance and claims operations, assigned personnel, and program development and improvement for UNT Risk Management Services.
* Develop and manage cost effective strategies to finance current and future operational exposures, protecting UNT System operations and component institutions from financial loss.
* Continually assess, analyze and develop proactive strategies to identify emerging risks and exposures across the UNT System; assisting senior leadership and component institutions with identifying and selecting appropriate risk financing and loss control options.
* Provide risk management oversight of all claims made against UNT System and component institutions.
* Work closely with internal and external partners; including, Office of General Counsel, State Office of Risk Management, insurance carriers, brokers, adjusters, and other parties as needed.
* Manage all aspects of the UNT insurance budget, to include all premiums paid for lines of insurance across the UNT System.
* Lead insurance renewals in coordination with appropriate internal and external partners and stakeholders.
* Lead assigned personnel and establish priorities for team members, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services.
* Coordinate with leadership to identify and prioritize goals and objectives related areas of responsibility in support of broader university strategic objectives.
* Manage insurance and claims outreach and training activities for various audiences and key stakeholders.
* Lead and/or participate in loss prevention activities with various partners across the university.
* Lead the development, review, and update of insurance and claims processes and procedures.
* Participate in the management and implementation of the Risk Management Information System (RMIS).

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related field and five (5) years of professional related experience leading insurance or claims operations which can include analysis of risk, or related field or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training and experience.

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:

* Prior claims leadership or coordination responsibility.
* Advanced skills in strategic planning and setting unit goals, including experience in defining and implementing strategic and operational plans.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
* Familiarity with claim litigation.
* Excellent technical and product-specific expertise, claim resolution skills, and knowledge of insurance and claim principles, practices, and procedures including responsibility for high exposure/complex claims.
* Comfortable navigating in cross functional organizations and knowledge of overall company and industry operations.
* Ability to maintain knowledge of current and emerging industry trends.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Master's degree in business administration, finance, risk management/insurance, or a related field.
* Prior experience managing insurance and claims operations at an institution of higher education.
* Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC). Other professional designations will be acceptable and considered; e.g. Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Profession Risk Manager (PRM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), or other relevant designation.
