Director of Student Financial Aid
The Director, who reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, provides administrative leadership for the Offices of Student Financial Aid & Student Employment at the University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias. The Director serves as the campus authority on federal, state and institutional aid programs, and is a key member of the Enrollment Management leadership teams responsible for designing and implementing strategic plans to recruit and retain students. The Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, developing and implementing institutional policies and procedures, and the management of all financial aid funds. The Director, who is based in Orono, oversees a staff of 19, as well as 30 to 40 graduate assistants and student workers.
The Director must have a minimum of seven years of progressive financial aid experience, including supervisory experience; strong analytical skills regarding budgets and the strategic use of financial aid; prior experience with an enterprise-wide system such as PeopleSoft (preferred); excellent communication skills; and evidence of professional activities through professional memberships.
The Director must demonstrate a record of professional accomplishment in the field of Student Financial Aid. Strong management skills, a demonstrated record of fact-based management and data analysis, progressive financial aid experience, familiarity with federal regulations and the administration of regulations as they relate to higher education. Excellent organizational skills and a high energy level are imperative. Familiarity with methodologies for evaluation, reporting and office management are essential.
