I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
Job Description Summary:
The GW Biostatistics and Epidemiology Consulting Service (BECS) is seeking a full-time statistician to work on a mix of health related projects. Approximately 50% of time will be spent working with faculty who are serving as Fellows with the Redstone Global Center for Prevention and Wellness (https://publichealth.gwu.edu/redstone-center). Those projects will mostly involve statistical analyses of existing databases related to nutrition and obesity, as well as assistance with data analysis plans, and helping to write up papers. The remaining time will involve similar work on other health-related projects as well as some administrative tasks. There is a possibility that one of the other projects will involve a longitudinal study attempting to understand risk factors for childhood obesity, making this an ideal position for someone who has both moderately strong statistical sklills and an interest in obesity, nutrition, or chronic disease epidemiology. Although continued funding is not guaranteed, there is a strong expectation that the position will span multiple years and provide opportunities for career advancement.
The BECS consists of a group of faculty and non-faculty biostatisticians and epidemiologists based primarily in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the GWU Milken Institute School of Public Health. Our mission is to provide biostatistical and epdemiologic study design support services to investigators engaged in in health research at GWU and in some cases to investigators affiliated with other organizations. See https://publichealth.gwu.edu/projects/biostatistics-and-epidemiology-consulting-service-becs. The Redstone Global Center implements and evaluates strategies to improve health and to measure outcomes globally, nationally and in the Washington, DC community. The Center focuses on topics which includes obesity, nutrition and physical activity. Many opportunities exist for professional growth through interaction with the BECS team, attendance at talks on campus, and networking with faculty and staff who have similar interests in applying statistics to understand how to improve health outcomes.
The statistician occupying this position will have a moderate level of autonomy and will report to the BECS Director.
• Programming using SAS and other software to analyze large databases
• Work with other investigators to prepare detailed data analysis plans, interpret analyses, and publish results
• Performing other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position
Qualified candidates will hold a MS or MPH in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
• MS or MPH in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or in a related discipline.
