Job Description Summary:

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking an Associate Director of President's Council and Volunteer Engagement. DAR is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWU's mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

The Associate Director of President's Council and Alumni Volunteer Engagement will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a new GW alumni volunteer leadership and exclusive advisory group, President's Council, and will oversee the creation and implementation of cutting-edge training opportunities for volunteers and volunteer managers. The groups will serve as brand ambassadors to George Washington University and provide advice and counsel to GW's President regarding alumni activities, however are not involved in governance of the University. A detailed and high-level of coordination and communication is required across the University specifically with the Office of the Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations and Office of the President.

Duties Include:

With the assistance of the Sr. Associate Vice President of Alumni Relations and the Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations, identify GW alumni who are currently industry leaders or in a C-suite title role of a major company who could be potential members of this leadership alumni council.

Coordinate and plan two President's Council leadership meetings that display the University's priorities and premier programs and successes. Meetings will include a high-end welcome reception dinner to include members, their spouses and University Leadership followed by a members-only meeting.

Create a new member's formal invitation packet, membership directory and membership list-serve and annual meeting agenda and travel logistics, and volunteer job description.

Coordinate annual solicitation strategies with director of development across the University to ensure 100% alumni leadership giving from this group.

Once established, create opportunities for members to host regional receptions, provide student internships, host summer send-offs, etc. With the purpose of engaging alumni communities.

Manage oversight of the administration and management of the President's Council (PC) including coordination of membership nominations and selection; on-boarding of new members; planning all logistics for PC meetings in collaboration with the Associate Vice President of Alumni Relations; and providing consistent updates and communication with PC members as directed.

Develop and execute a comprehensive volunteer training and professional development program including the creation of training videos, in-person training sessions, a volunteer conference, and other cutting edge training experiences to offer GW volunteers across the globe.

Assist the Director of Volunteer Programs in executing the strategy for the recruitment, training, professional development, evaluation, stewardship, and philanthropic inclination of all volunteers across DAR and the university.

Supporting office wide, signature programs such as the annual Colonials Weekend.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Proven ability to build professional relationships across departments and institutions.

Willingness and ability to travel, and work on weekends and after normal business hours.

Established flexibility and initiative; the ability to work independently, as well as thrive in a team environment to achieve institutional goals.

Demonstrated strong writing, planning and organizational skills.

Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines.
