The purpose of the Department of Student Health Services (SHS) is to provide appropriate, affordable, accessible and high quality primary health care to eligible students, and provide a comprehensive disease-prevention and health education program in the NC State University community. The major function of the SHS is that of providing outpatient care to the 34,000+ NC State students. Some level of medical care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year beginning in August and ending in May. Hours of service vary during the summer and during holidays and student breaks.

The primary role of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is to deliver comprehensive individualized health care to NC State students, which includes diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, performing minor outpatient procedures, providing patient education and counseling, and offering health education and disease prevention advice. The person filling this role MUST be able to perform minor procedures and work independently. This position will work as a member of the medical staff team both at the Centennial location and at the location on Main Campus. The Nurse Practitioner works primarily in the Women's Health department to assess and diagnose problems; interpret medical and clinical information; determine the need for other diagnosis tests; and develop a plan of care based on patient history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests when indicated. He or she will prescribe and/or modify treatment plans and/or medication. On occasion, the Nurse Practitioner may work in the general medicine clinic.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program approved By the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and "approved to Practice Medical acts" by the Joint Subcommittee. Demonstrated communication and documentation skills. Ability to work with a diverse college age population.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: *Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program approved By the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and "approved to Practice Medical acts" by the Joint Subcommittee. * Experience with women's health procedures, including placement of intrauterine devices and sub-dermal contraceptive implants, strongly desired. *Prefer minimum of 2 years experience as an NP working in ambulatory care, such as primary care, internal medicine, urgent care, adolescent medicine, college health. Must be able to perform procedures such a laceration repair, incision and drainage.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: NC Board of Nursing License and current on required CME for maintaining license.
