The Development Director of Annual Giving (Direct Marketing) reports to the Senior Development Director of Annual Giving and is responsible for the organization, development, implementation, and supervision of a comprehensive direct marketing program that will maximize annual support from alumni and friends using best practices and various marketing channels; including direct mail, telephone, email, web, digital, and online giving.

Essential Responsibilities:

•Responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive alumni direct marketing fund-raising program. This will include, but not limited to, the design and implementation of appropriate University-wide materials, coordination and management of the telemarketing program (Calling ’Canes), management of web, digital, and online giving strategies, and communicating with school based development officers/campus partners.

•Manages all aspects of the central direct marketing program. Sets objectives and advises schools/colleges in direct marketing activities. Develops (conceptualize, write, edit, manage production) of all collateral materials associated with annual giving direct marketing program.

•Other direct marketing duties include: appeal performance tracking, maintaining accounting records and coordinating billing for the direct marketing program.

•Responsible for the development and implementation of an annual web, digital, and online giving strategy that is integrated with the Office of Annual Giving’s larger annual solicitation strategy.

•Responsible for the oversight and execution of the Newman Alumni Center brick program, matching gift program, and the customer service function of the Office of Annual Giving.

•With support from Advancement Services, monitors and analyzes program data to reveal trends, assess performance of giving programs and provides performance reports to senior administration.

•With collaboration from Advancement Services, designs and implements alumni giving portions of the gift and biographical records systems, including report formats that effectively serve the management needs of alumni giving staff. Participates in the formulation of policies that affect the recording and counting of gifts and the format of gift reports.

Management and Operations:

•Responsible for developing and monitoring the overall budget of the direct marketing giving programs in collaboration with members of the staff to whom specific budgetary responsibilities are delegated.

•Responsible for designing systems, schedules, segmentation plans, procedures and policies to implement the operational requirements of the direct marketing program, including work flow, mailings, research and computing requirements.

University Liaison Activities:

•Staffs various committees and subcommittees for the Alumni Association Board. Assists the Associate Vice President, Alumni Relations and the Senior Development Director of Annual Giving with any other matters or responsibilities deemed appropriate.

•Responsible for the direct supervision of one team member; the Donor Relations Coordinator and is the liaison with the telemarketing vendor and their Program Center Manager.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Education and Training:
• Baccalaureate degree required with a preferred major in Business/Marketing and or Communications fields is preferred; Master’s degree preferred.
• A minimum of three years of experience in the annual giving/alumni giving or related programs required.
• Experience in managing and utilizing complex centralized databases is required.
• Direct hands on experience in managing a multi-channel direct marketing program including direct mail, email and web required.
• Prior experience with a phone-a-thon program is preferred.
• Previous experience in supervising staff preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education/experience may be considered.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are necessary, with a philosophy of teamwork and hands on implementation.
